Services Overview

Employment Network

Supporting Lives offers services to individuals located in communities of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee and Polk Counties to prepare for, attain, and sustain gainful employment.  We offer our clients a hand up, not a hand out—building on their strengths and helping to reduce or eliminate any barriers to employment.

All Supporting Lives clients enter our self-directed job search program where they receive comprehensive support as they search for work.  Clients work closely with their Employment Specialist to build an employment plan and establish short- and long-term goals. We provide the tools and support necessary so they can succeed in the job market for the rest of their lives.

Our talented team of volunteers also help clients execute their plan by providing expertise and encouragement. Volunteering with Supporting Lives is a rewarding experience. Visit the Volunteer section for more details on how you can get involved!

Supporting Lives client services fall into four main categories:

  1. Job Readiness
  2. Job Search
  3. Transitional Job Program
  4. Post-Employment Support

Job-Readiness

At the core of our program is our job-readiness classes and services.  The curriculum is designed to improve job search skills, self-confidence and employability.

Classes include:

  • Developing an effective job search strategy
  • Effective applications, resumes, and cover letters
  • Interview preparation
  • Life skills – effective communication, stress & money management
  • Basic computer training and job retention skills
  • Job search skills for ex-offenders

When needed, Employment Specialists also provide referrals to a wide range of other services, including: child care, housing, healthcare, and mental health.

Job Search

Our services are aimed at eliminating barriers to employment.  When a client is ready to look for employment, we assist them with finding opportunities, resume and letter writing, and practice interviews.

Clients have access to a range of job search services, including:

  • Phones and fax machines to communicate with potential employers
  • A message center to receive phone messages and mail
  • Computers to prepare resumes and cover letters
  • Use of a resource room for interview preparation and the selection of proper work attire
  • Hygiene kits

Transitional Jobs Program

Established in 2011, Supporting Lives provides a transitional jobs program for clients who have the greatest barriers to employment.  With Supporting Lives programs, our clients have the opportunity to gain real-world skills, build confidence, and develop the experience needed to find and retain long-term employment.

Post-Employment Support

We use a case-management model that provides individual help from an Employment Specialist as well as support groups.  Our services address workplace and personal development issues that may affect a client’s ability to stay employed.  Support groups include: Men’s, Women’s, and Job Retention Groups, as well as Career Seminars, featuring volunteer guest speakers qualified to address a variety of employment-related topics.

Supporting Lives’ Support Groups and post-employment case management provide clients with the life skills and mentoring needed to successfully stay employed and on a path to lifelong self-sufficiency.
